About Us

Heading 4

The Society has been in existence since 1889 and over the years it has drawn membership from all walks of life, ages and abilities. Perhaps our most famous member was Rudyard Kipling who was the Society's Vice-President in 1911.

We currently have over 90 members and welcome everyone whether you are new to gardening or have many years of experience.

We have a busy programme of EVENTS throughout the year which includes:

  • Two talks with top class speakers on a wide range of horticultural and garden related subjects

  • Three annual shows. They are easy to enter with prize money, certificates and trophy cups awarded to the winners. Our shows generate a great deal of interest with many entrants and are well attended by the public

  • A Spring Plant Sale. Offering a wide variety of good quality plants at very reasonable prices. Many of these plants are grown and nurtured by our Society members and are particularly suited to the soil conditions and climate in this area. This popular event is an opportunity for you to pick up new plants for the forthcoming summer growing season

  • A coach trip to a garden themed venue
