Rose and Sweet Pea Show

Saturday 11th June 2022

The Burwash Horticultural Society Rose and Sweet Pea Show held on Saturday 11th June was another great success. There were 64 entries of roses, a good number, which was surprising given the very wet weather earlier in the week which damaged so many roses; sweet peas numbers were disappointing as were the delphiniums. There were some lovely vases of flowers and the new class for a display of succulents was well supported.

The craft entries were up in numbers with some excellent quilted and knitted items, cookery entry numbers were on the low side. We had some beautiful paintings of water lilies but very low entries for the children’s classes.

The judges were very impressed by the high standard of exhibits on display and found it a hard job to select the winning entries.

The show was attended by many visitors who enjoyed the mixture of flowers and handicrafts and the refreshments proved very popular so kindly provided by Sue Kork and her daughter together with Lynda Maude-Roxby.

The Queens Challenge Cup for the best Delphinium in the show was again won by Laurie Holden and the Harry Relf Trophy for the best vase of sweet peas was won by Lynda Maude-Roxby.

The Court Farm Cup for the highest points in Roses was won by Lynda Maude-Roxby.

The Kent & Sussex Courier Rose Bowl for the best rose exhibit together with the Ron Partner £10 Rose voucher was won by Halina Keep.

In the Children’s Classes the Elizabeth Reid Cup was won by George Wordsworth.

The Paignton Cup for the best exhibit in handicraft classes was won by Jill Telford

In the painting class, the Ward Memorial Cup was won by Cath Mycock.
